NO ANCIENT DOCUMENTS ARE AS WELL ATTESTED

To be skeptical of the resultant text of the New Testament books is to allow all of classical antiquity to slip into obscurity, for no documents of the ancient period are as well attested bibliographically as the New Testament.

Been awhile - I happened by hoping to see some discussion of the whole church-vs-state ideas we have all been hearing about vis-a-vis Sarah Palin’s apparent belief system… you have anything like that you care to post? I am interested in hearing what the other side is thinking about the potential for a creationist neocon a heartbeat away from the presidency… you, John, I know to be a rational skeptic of the actual creation myth, so I would love to have some discussion of the future of religion in american politics. any interest out there?

    Hi! ID;

    Long time not heard!

My question for you is ” Is it so bad, if our VP is closer to God?” ( Don’t get me wrong, I don’t endorse all her pentecostal beliefs. She is not perfect, but she seems like a fresh choice for me.)

And who says that McCain will die first than most candidates? Don’t care so much about “one heart beat away”, it is all in God’s hand, not in man’s hand.

    Have a blessed day!

interestinf take there ellen - i have to say that “it is all in god’s hands” is kinda a naive sentiment… mathematically, the oldest person in history to (possibly) take the office is more likely to die than a man in the prime of life. just math. and if you, a religious person, are not on board with her religious views, how do you think people like me are feeling? I would love a nice fiscally conservative republican candidate, but with palin on the ticket i wouldnt vote for them if the other choice was a cannibl or a serial killer. “closer to god”? I fear for the day when an abstinence-only proponent, anti-choice proponent, and creationist gets to make decisions that affect normal people… do you not fear for the future when you see the direction that leads?

Good to see you back, ID. Good comments, Ellen.

I’m not at all encouraged by this choice of candidates, and Palin’s religious beliefs mean very little to me in a political sense. I am pleased that she has faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, but I worry about what I see as a dangerous neo-conservative foreign policy and a growing military state. I’m writing in Ron Paul, who is also a Christian believer, but who is definitely not a supporter of our current militaristic foreign policy.

    Dave,
Scintillating repartee in short supply today, eh?
Do you not see what you are doing? You claim to be against someone making decisions that affect other people. That’s what politicians do, DUH!
Obviously, abstinence only programs won’t affect YOU. Creationist beliefs won’t affect YOU. Pro life policies won’t affect YOU. You want the decisions of a small group of liberal judges to stand as law, even though it has led to the slaughter of millions of innocent pre born babies, talk about affecting someone’s life, how about aborting their life before they get a chance to even live.
I see you still haven’t figured out how to type a few sentences in a grammatically coherent manner, Dave.

    Hi! ID:

I understand that statistically that the older ones go first, but the reality is not always so. McCain may live to 100 years old, who knows? Leaving this to God’s hand is not too naive, don’t you think? What I mean is God knows the best.

On the other hand, what we should all be concerned is “we may all be only one heartbeat away from meeting our Creator God”. We never know. How we are going to face Him should be the biggest concern; compared to that biggest concern, the rest will not be so important after all.

I am pro-life and don’t think we have rights to rob the unborn, rights to live since none robbed our rights to live before we were born. ( Unless the mother’s life is in danger, I don’t think pro-choice is a better choice.)
What so bad about abstinence?–the best way to prevent sexual diseases.
…Of course, we do have different points of view.

No matter what, it is interesting to know your perspectives about these issues.
